그것은 황량한 위스콘신의 이른 아침이었어요    
When he heard the fatal rapids for that last and fatal time  
그가 치명적인 급류에 휘말렸을 때죠    
They found his body lying on the Rocky shore below  
사람들은 아래쪽 어느 암석 해안에서 그의 시체를 발견했죠   
Where the silent water ripples and the whispering cedars blow   
소리없는 강물이 잔물결 짓고, 삼나무를 흔드는 바람소리만 있던 곳이죠  
  
Now every raft of lumber that comes down, the cheerful way  
지금도 모든 뗏목들이 그 폭포를 내려가고 있어요    
There's a lonely grave that's visited by drivers on their way  
사람들이 차를 몰고 지나가는 그 길목에 외로운 무덤이 있어요   
They plant wild flowers upon it in the morning fair and fine  
사람들은 어느 활짝 갠 맑은 아침날 그 무덤에 야생화를 심었죠    
It is the grave of two young lovers from the river in the pines  
그 무덤은 솔 숲 사이 강물이 흐르는 곳 젊은 두 연인을 위한 것이에요
